What is a manicure?

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment that involves pampering your fingernails and hands with a special treatment regimen. It is part of good grooming practice and a form of relaxation.

What is/are the benefits of a manicure?

Manicure helps to temporarily improve the appearance, texture and health of your fingernails and/or hands. It also helps to improve the condition of the skin and fingernails suffering from common conditions such as dry, rough skin or weak, peeling, dry, brittle or bitten nails. However, it takes several manicure sessions to notice improvements of the nail or skin condition. If there are open wounds, kindly let those wounds heal first before booking your appointment as open wounds may lead to serious injuries.

How long does an appointment take?

The length of an appointment depends on the service/s chosen, the complexity of the design (the more intricate, the more time-consuming) and how many fingers have been chosen to be decorated. On average, it will take about 1.5 to 4 hours per client.

Classic gel manicure takes an average of about 75 – 90 mins per client. We take longer than other manicure salons as we focus on good cuticle care regimen. Cuticle care is often neglected when getting a manicure and our nail technician at Kimaya Artistry carries out proficient Japanese style cuticle care to ensure perfect foundation for gel application.

Please state ALL the service/s required accurately when booking for your manicure appointment as this will allow us to allocate enough time for your service. As such, when your booking is confirmed, we can provide you with an estimated time needed for your service.

To prevent cross-contamination, Kimaya Artistry uses only the highest quality products and practice high levels of cleanliness procedures to ensure clients and technician safety. We use hospital grade cleaners to sanitise and kill all bacteria on our workstation. In addition, fresh paper towels and towels are changed after each client. Here, at Kimaya Artistry, we use a medical-grade machine called an autoclave. All metal implements are placed into sealed pouches and placed into the autoclave for sterilisation. An autoclave effectively and efficiently kills all bacteria and germs.

Please view our hygiene standards for detailed description on our hygiene practices and manicure safety at Kimaya Artistry. This can be found under “How We Care”.

Is a manicurist able to treat or diagnose any serious nail or skin related condition?

Manicurist is not a doctor. We are not certified to diagnose or treat any serious nail or skin condition. For your safety and protection, we can only advise clients suffering from serious nail or skin condition to see their GP or dermatologist for treatment. As such, we are unable to perform manicure for these clients. Not only is there a possibility of aggravating the condition, there is also a risk of spreading the infection to the nail technician and other clients as they are contagious.

Examples of conditions where a manicurist must not give any treatment or manicure includes: Warts, Infected hangnail, fungal infection, paronychia.

Examples of skin/nail condition where restricted manicure services can be offered includes: Corns, Eczema, Dermatitis.

Can I bring my food to your salon?

Kimaya Artistry value cleanliness and keeping service areas clean and hygienic. Thus, we do NOT allow clients to bring food to prevent potential bacteria from entering into our sterile area. Drinks will be provided. Thank you for your understanding.

Does gel polish harm the natural nail?

No. However, your natural nails can be damaged if the nail technician fails to prep the nail plate efficiently prior to polishing/nail enhancements. It also includes if your nails are buffed too hard prior to gel application or improper removal techniques.

Incorrect removal includes forceful scraping and deliberately peeling the gel polish off. We do not recommend clients to peel their gel polish off. This will inevitably lift off the top layer of your natural nail with it, in turn, it will thinner you nail plate leaving ridges if constantly picked.

Please book an appointment with us to have them removed correctly and professionally.

You may also request for IBX Nail Repair Strengthening Treatment. This treatment can be used under any gel polish coating. It acts as a protective nail shield and it helps to strengthen your natural nails. This service is priced at $2.50/nail or $20/set and it is used to target any nail imperfections, weaknesses and damaged nails.

Application & Removal

What is involved in a professional manicure at Kimaya Artistry?

It typically includes sanitizing both the nail technician and client’s hands before your manicure is performed. It involves trimming/cutting your fingernails, filing and shaping them, pushing back and trimming the cuticles, cleaning under the free edge, buffing of your nails, soaking and applying gel polish/artificial enhancements/nail art to the fingernails. It ends with a moisturising massage of your hands and arms and applying cuticle oil around the nail.

What is the strongest nail shape?

As far as strength and versatility is concerned for natural nails, a squoval nail shape is recommended. This shape has square strong sides with rounded corners. It is sturdier and less likely to break as the presence of side walls adds support while the square tip adds strength and durability to the nail. It is debatable that rounded nails also cause less breakage.

How long does gel polish last?

Depending on your lifestyle and with constant aftercare, it should look good up to 2-3 weeks. It could last up to 4-6 weeks if you are careful.

How long will it take to soak off my gel polish?

It usually takes about 20-30 minutes to completely soak off the gel polish. This includes buffing the top shiny layer prior to the start of soaking your nails with acetone.
It takes a litter longer time to fully soak all the product off if:
– you have been wearing your gel polish for 3 weeks or longer.
– the gel polish on your nail is slightly thicker than normal.
– any remaining polish feels very ‘stuck’.
– your natural nails are dry in nature. Gel polish adhere more on drier nails.

Is it safe to soak my nails in acetone?

Yes, soaking your nails in remover/acetone in moderation is perfectly safe. Acetone removes oils from the nail that causes slight drying of your fingers but it does not damage the nail plate. Acetone cannot be absorbed into your system. Protect your fingertips and stop them from dying out by applying cuticle oil every day. Kimaya Artistry offers safe removal techniques without having your fingers from drying out.

Do you remove hard gels?

Yes, we do remove hard gels/overlays/extensions and any nail accessory that has been cured with hard gel. Do note that we do not use an electric drill but we manually file off hard gel. Please bare with us if we take long as manual filing requires more time. Thank you.

Do you charge for gel/extensions removal?

Yes, we charge for removals. Please view our service menu for the charges. However, if you would like free gel removals, please view our DIVINE package to enjoy more savings! Contact us directly at +65 9776 9946 if you would like to enquire more about our package.
